American Motors Corporation was an economy car company. It built good practical cars. Unfortunately the mid 60's was a time of youth. Youth that wanted speed and flash, not boring economy cars. It was the hip generation. Although AMC was late to the party, they came dressed to impress.

For the car enthusiast in 1968, the arrival of the newest American two seat sports car was a Major event. The design was unique and to many, beautiful, with its long hood and abrupt rear deck.

It had the mechanical and equipment features that you would expect in a true sports car design. Within that design were powerful V-8 Engines Only with Dual Exhaust, Special Suspension including Rear Traction Bars with High-Performance Tires, Floor Mounted Four Speed Transmission, Integral Tachometer and lots more. Many features that were absent in most sports cars, the AMX had, such as: Hefty Deep Sectioned Bumpers, Flow Through Fresh Air Ventilation, Large Frame Less Side Windows without vent windows, and Smooth Contoured Outside Door Handles.

In keeping with its character of a "no-compromise" car, AMX offered a full range of options and equipment for that personalized tailoring which was common for the day.

The new "390" V8 engine was first introduced in 1968. This engine came with the highest-rated power output ever attained by a standard production American Motors Engine-315 hp, 425 foot pounds torque. Boasting such heavy-duty components as forged steel crankshaft and connecting rods instead of the usual cast iron, the AMX 390 V-8 reflected an American Motors engineering objective of extreme reliability as well as power.

The AMX created excitement. The AMX sat on a 97" wheelbase; it had an overall length of 177.22", a width of 71.57", and a height of 51.73". It weighed in at just over 3,000lbs.

Even before it was introduced to the public at the Chicago Auto Show on February 23, 1968, the AMX broke 106 National and International speed records with Craig Breedlove behind the wheel. Breedlove would take the AMX to Bonneville and run an official 189mph with an unofficial run of over 200mph.

The AMX was the only American steel bodied two seater of its time, the last being the '55 - '57 Ford Thunderbird. Sure, doctors and lawyers could buy Corvettes and Thunderbirds all day long, but now college students and secretaries could look forward to driving something with a little more guts than the average family sedan.

Moving on to the Interior, you will find the Charcoal Interior, Individually Adjustable Reclining Bucket Seats trimmed in Breathable Ventilair Vinyl, Smartly-Styled Aircraft-type Instrument Panel with Wood-Grain Center Applique, Passenger Assist Grab Bar, Bright Trim and Wood-grain Applique Door Panels, AMX Number Plaque #10014, American Motors Radio with Original in Trunk, Clock, Tachometer, Floor Hurst Shifter, Locking Glovebox, Heater/Defroster Controls, Molded Ceilings, Padded Instrument Panel, Safety Shape Interior Door Handles, Energy Absorbing Steering Column, Deep Dish Impact Absorbing Steering Wheel, Safety Shaped Instrument Control Knobs, Two Shoulder Belts, Padded Seat Back, Front Seat Head Restraints, Day/Night Rearview Mirror with Twin Pivots and Protected Edges, and Wall to Wall Nylon Cut-Pile Carpeting extending to rear window.

This is an Exceptional 69 AMX. Beautifully restored to factory specs and runs and drives great. This AMX did come from the Factory with the Go Package, which it still retains those items today. The Go Package features were available on either the 343 or 390cid engine and included Power Disc Brakes, E70 x 14 Red Line Tires, Special Duty Handling Package, Twin Grip Differential, Heavy Duty Engine cooling System, Over the Top Racing Stripes in choice of black, white, Red, Blue or silver, Heavy duty 70 amp battery, Heavy Duty Cooling System, Quick Ratio Manual Steering, and Road Control Power Steering.
